Meet Our Middle School Teachers and Advisors
Mrs. Amy Hemingway
Mrs. Hemingway teaches language arts, U.S. history, and geography. This is Amy’s fourth year at Chesapeake Academy. She gets a great deal of satisfaction seeing the success of her students. Originally from Glastonbury, Connecticut, she graduated from Roanoke College in 1999 with a BS in Sociology and is currently working on a masters degree from Old Dominion University in Education. Amy enjoys running, going to the movies, skiing and traveling with her husband. When Amy's day ends with her little "ospreys", she enjoys spending every minute with her daughter, a March 2006 addition, Alison. Along with all of her teaching responsibilities, Amy also coaches forensics.
Ms. Linda Hunter “Doc”
Doc teaches Science in the Middle School and has been at Chesapeake Academy for 20 years. Originally from Massachusetts, Doc started teaching first grade in a two-room schoolhouse in New Hampshire. Doc earned a BS in Education and Environmental Science from Kent State University. Before teaching, Doc trained horses and riders, traveled over 3,000 miles by bicycle, and now because of teaching, she only has time for walking on the beach, fishing and digging for artifacts.
Mrs. Claudia Soucek
Mrs. Soucek is in her seventh year at Chesapeake Academy and teaches fifth-grade Language Arts, sixth grade World History, eighth grade U.S. History, as well as coach the Forensics team. Originally from Middlesex County, Claudia graduated from James Madison University with a BA in History. She maintains a Collegiate Professional Teaching License for the state of Virginia. Her husband, Archie, is an attorney in Middlesex and they have two children, Andrew and Marcie. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, being with young people, and singing.
Mr. Phil Williams
Mr. Williams is a third year teacher at Chesapeake Academy, and teaches Middle School math. Phil did his undergraduate work at Hampden-Sydney College and earned a MBA from the University of Maryland with a concentration in transportation and logistics. Phil enjoys teaching because it provides him the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of students. Plus, he likes motiviating students to excel in mathematics. He is originally from Chevy Chase, Maryland and Irvington, Virginia. Phil enjoys maintaining and restoring old cars, boats, and the house in which he lives.
