2011 SUMMER CAMP

The Camps at Chesapeake

QUITE SIMPLY, we want this to be the best camp experience ever for your child. Our emphasis is on fun, physical activity, and the development of positive character traits. Our qualified and trained staff offer a wide variety of age-appropriate, side-splitting fun, and challenging activities where campers learn about themselves while developing skills to last a lifetime.

 

There is a one-time registration fee of $30 per child. Please register early. SPACE IS LIMITED!

Register BEFORE APRIL 21 to qualify for ZERO REGISTRATION FEES! Financial assistance is available.

 


Camp Irvington

Campers 4 to 9 years old (Six Sessions)

A not-so-traditional day camp, Camp Irvington is everything a summer camp should be… and then some! Totally new for 2011, Camp Irvington will be themed-based each week (Treasure Island, Mad Science, Farmer John Spouts...) with loads of excursions to fabulous places like the Norfolk Zoo or Virginia Living Museum. This is your child’s chance to discover new interests, make new friends, and learn in a relaxed, super-friendly environment. Swimming, arts & crafts, creek exploration, cooking, group games.... what fun! Check out our website for weekly themes.

We are excited to announce that Mrs. Antonio and Mrs. Rogers will be leading our campers in a summer full of fun with Camp Irvington. Each week will include two mornings of swimming, a field trip, a themed party on Fridays, and much more!

  • SESSION 1: 6/13 – 6/17, Farmer John Sprouts and Friends / Norfolk Zoo
    Hi Farmer John! What makes things grow? Lets meet a chicken, pig, and horse to find out! Mr. Chicken invites us to the Barn Yard Dance to learn the “Funky Chicken” and “The Watermelon Crawl”. On our field trip we will observe all the animals as we walk through the Norfolk Zoo. And don't forget about our cooking projects of chicken fingers and barnyard gigglers.
  • SESSION 2: 6/20 – 6/24, Treasure Island / VA Beach Aquarium — Ahoy mates! Join us as Captain Osprey sails our ship to Ice Cream Island, even if it is raining chocolate chips! This will be a week full of swashbuckling games, everyone will love the game called ship wrecked, sword fights with noodles, aiming for the ankles of course. Cannon balls on lanes? Yes! We'll sail to the bowling alley for our weekly field trip. Grab the map! Our treasure hunt will lead up to the buried treasure chest! What are we going to find?
  • SESSION 3: 6/27 – 7/1, Super Shocking Science / Bowling — Slim, rockets, and crystals Oh My! Did you know you can make an eggs hard shell turn soft with a daily soak in vinegar? Come along as we take an exciting stroll down the road of Super Shocking Science. We'll make slim, play dough, rockets, and more! Our field trip will take us to the Richmond Science Museum where we will have tons of hands on science fun. Cooking projects will include cinnamon rolls and candy. Who knew science could be such a blast!
  • SESSION 4: 7/5 – 7/8 (Closed July 4) $150.00 this session only, Summer Blast / Roller Skating  — Happy 4th of July! Join us as we celebrate our country's birthday. It started out at Plymouth Rock and now we are going to cook with a melting pot. We'll roll our way into this celebration at the skating rink. Grab your red, white, and blue for water games, fire works arts and crafts and of course our BBQ! Don't forget the backyard games of tug-of-war, corn hole, and balloon games!
  • SESSION 5: 7/11 – 7/15, Go for the Gold / Ice Skating — Your challenge should you accept it, is to help lead your team to the top of the podium. Contest, sports, and teamwork will be the name of the game. We will slip, slide, and glide our way to the ice skating rink for our field trip this week. Join us as we cook up some healthy alternatives to some of your favorite snacks, and put them in your own recipe book to take home at the end of the week.
  • SESSION 6: 7/18 – 7/22, Under the Sea / Bethpage Water Park — Cowabunga Dude will be on your minds all week. We'll pretend to surf, shark attack on the parachute, lots of beach ball games, and sand castle cooking! Grab your dancing flip flops, sun glasses, and swim suit as we limbo, hula hoop, and pass the coconut. Join as we make crab, fish, and star fish ornaments. The week will have you wanting to swim with the fish for the rest of the summer!

Field Trip Camp

Campers 9 to 14 years old (Two Sessions)

Build your child’s sense of road-trip adventure as we journey as a boisterous band of thrill-seekers to experience some of Virginia’s finest outdoor adventures and amusement parks. Each session includes a four-night camping trip with an experienced, caring staff who guides your child in learning the basics necessary to really love overnight camping. *Field trips subject to change.

  • Session 1: 6/13 - 6/17

Sports Camp

Campers 9 to 14 years old (Two Sessions)

Geared towards active kids who simply love sports of all kinds, this is more than your traditional “skills and drills” sports camp. Coordination, strength, and dexterity-building activities are taught through four main sports in each session such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, and golf. Campers enjoy themselves under the careful supervision of a well-trained, experienced staff, while building athletic skills, self-confidence, and healthy, strong bodies.

  • SESSION 6: 7/18 – 7/22

Water Sports Overnight Camp!

9 to 14 years old (Two Sessions)

Taking full advantage of our proximity to the beautiful Rappahannock River, Water Sports Overnight Camp satisfies those kids who just can’t get enough salt-water saturation! Waterskiing, knee-boarding, wake-boarding, tubing, and fishing opportunities abound. Add to that the hilarity, wisdom, and camaraderie that comes with overnight camping under the guidance of our professional, outdoor-loving staff. Land-based recreational activities include capture-the-flag, ultimate frisbee, cooking, lacrosse, soccer, dodgeball, and more.

  • SESSION 5: 7/11 – 7/15

Sailing Camp

Campers 8 to 14 years old (Two Sessions)

Instill in your sea-farin’ child a life-long love of sailing and an appreciation of the tide and wind with this confidence-building, super-fun sailing camp based at the Rappahannock River Yacht Club on Carter’s Creek. Campers will thrive in this small, attentive camp limited to a maximum of six sailors.
