About Chesapeake Academy
Chesapeake Academy is a co-educational, independent day school serving Preschool through 8th Grade. Located in the Northern Neck on a nine-acre campus in the heart of Irvington, Virginia, the school attracts students from Lancaster, Northumberland, Middlesex and Mathews counties. While the school’s opening is often referred to as 1889, the opening date of the original Chesapeake Academy in Irvington, the present school opened in 1965.
Chesapeake Academy is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS), is a member of the Educational Records Bureau and the Preschool is certified and the Extended Daycare Program is licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services.
Providing an excellent education is the collective goal of the parents, faculty, administration and trustees. The three school divisions: Early Childhood, Lower School and Middle School, work together to provide a sequenced curriculum that is challenging and prepares students for their next level of education. The school’s program guides the students through years of development in academics, honor, integrity, responsibility, sportsmanship and teamwork.
The key value of a Chesapeake Academy education is connectedness, found in several ways:
Academics
Cultivating a stimulating learning environment promoting academic excellence, critical thinking and a life-long love of learning;
School Family
Fostering supportive interaction among motivated and loyal students, faculty, parents, alumni, board members and friends;
The Individual
Emphasizing ethical character, instilling personal responsibility and nurturing individual potential through broad participation in school programs;
Vision
Inspiring students to be all they can be as true citizens in their community both now and in the future.
