1514 Duck Hunting Trip for Two to Tangier Island

Blaine and Nathan Altaffer (CA class of 09’) will host you and a guest for a good ole fashion Chesapeake Bay duck hunting trip. The trip will have everyone departing historic Reedville, VA aboard their sport fishing boat Bay Boys (DirecTV, heated & air-conditioned), arriving mid to late afternoon at Park’s Marina where you will stay for the night. We will have time to walk the island and enjoy dinner at small café on the island. The next morning (early) we will be picked up at the Marina by native Tangierman, Teddy Marshall, and his son, Travis, to take us to the blinds north of the island on the eel grass beds that ducks love!! Tangier Island sits right smack in the middle of the Bay and the prime Mid-Atlantic waterfowl flyway. Key species that frequent this area include: pintails, red heads, widgeon, gadwall, mallard, brant, Canadian goose, snow goose, swan and teal. We will enjoy an awesome sunrise and be able to hear the stories told by Teddy and Travis of growing up on the island and hunting their entire lives there. Lunch and snacks will be included. We will return to the marina by 3 p.m. for a nice cruise back to Reedville and have you back at the dock by around 5 p.m. Note: It will be up to each individual to bring appropriate gun, steel shot, warm hunting clothes and have a VA hunting license and state & federal duck stamps. The trip will need to take place in November through January time-frame, based on the VA waterfowl hunting season. The hunt and boat travel will also be pending appropriate weather. The captain will make a final call based on the weather the morning of the departure date.
