Meet Our Wonderful Co-Curricular Faculty

SomersMrs. Beth Somers

Mrs. Somers teaches music, directs the Academy's musical performances, serves as Co-Curricular Division Head and has been with the school for three and a half years. One of her greatest joys of teaching at the Academy is watching children "get it" and listening for when a song finally comes together. Beth has lived for most of her life in Reedville and White Stone. She attended Old Dominion University, and is also the Youth Music Director for Grace Episcopal Church. Beth has three sons that graduated from Chesapeake Academy and one more that is currently attending. She enjoys going to the beach and has a special talent for singing and sewing.

NancyMrs. Nancy O’Shaughnessy

Mrs. O’Shaughnessy teaches art for grades one through eight and is in her 11th year at Chesapeake Academy. She firmly believes that a child's ability to think creatively is important in all aspects of learning, and that what is taught in Art opens up opportunities in all aspects of the school curriculum. Originally from Philadelphia, she spent her “growing up” years in Dallas, Texas. Nancy earned a BA in Fine Arts from the University of the South, in Sewanee, Tennessee in 1982. She enjoys running, kayaking, spending time with her family, music and is an adult piano student.

WalkerMs. Cynthia Walker

Ms. Walker teaches Health and Physical Education for grades K through eight, coaches ISAC soccer, basketball and track and is the Director of the Academy's Summer Camp Program. She is in her first year at Chesapeake Academy. Cynthia loves working with kids of all ages.
