Meet Our “Reading to Learn” Teachers

MarpleMrs. Joan Marple

Mrs. Marple teaches first grade and is the Division Head for the Lower School. She has been teaching at Chesapeake Academy for six years. Joan did her undergraduate work at Cornell University and has a Masters Degree from Hofstra University. Having taught in England and Canada, she and her husband Allen enjoy traveling, the arts, and they frequent museums, theaters, and especially the ballet! Joan also enjoys reading, traveling, swimming and spending time with her husband, sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren.




AntonioMrs. Kelly Antonio

Mrs. Antonio began her career at Chesapeake Academy as the Director of Instructional Support. She currently teaches first grade and is excited about having a classroom and being with the same group of students all day. Kelly, her husband, and two sons moved from Annandale, Virginia. Kelly earned a BS in Biology from Mary Washington College in 1994 and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Old Dominion University in 1996. In her spare time, Kelly enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, reading, walking her dog, riding bikes, baking, and playing the piano.

BowlesMs. Melinda Bowles

Ms. Bowles teaches second grade and this will be her 29th year of teaching at Chesapeake Academy. Lynn grew up in Reedville, Virginia and graduated from Mary Washington College. One of her favorite things about teaching is watching her students grow and knowing that she is indeed making a difference in their lives. Lynn likes working in small groups and giving each student the attention they need. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, boating, reading, cooking, and watching movies.



RogersMrs. Martha Rogers

Mrs. Rogers teaches third grade and she has been at Chesapeake Academy for eight years. Martha is originally from Newark, Delaware and earned a BA degree in Early Childhood Education from Lynchburg College in 1987. One thing Martha enjoys about teaching is that it lets her be a child all over again. She enjoys sports of all types, going to the beach, boating, reading and spending time with her husband and children.

 




JohnsonMs. Sarah Johnson

Ms. Johnson (“Ms. J.”) teaches fourth grade and has been teaching at Chesapeake Academy for over 17 years. Sarah is originally from Richmond, Virginia and graduated from Longwood College. Sarah loves seeing children learn and being a contributor to their enthusiastic nature. Teaching keeps her thinking and feeling young. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys reading, traveling, spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as with her dog, “Moochie”.

 

 


GaskinsMrs. Linda Gaskins

Mrs. Gaskins is in the Lower School with the roaming desk! You're just as likely to find her decorating the halls, displaying student work or driving the bus. Linda really enjoys "seeing the light bulb go on when a child has learned something new." As a member of the Lancaster Kilmarnock Rescue Squad, Linda enjoys sharing her skills coordinating classes on CPR and First Aid. Linda has been working at Chesapeake Academy for ten years and attended Rappahannock Community College. Linda enjoys going to the beach, traveling, gardening, and spending time with her grandson Kameron.
