Meet Our “Reading to Learn” Teachers


AntonioMrs. Kelly Antonio

Mrs. Antonio began her career at Chesapeake Academy as the Director of Instructional Support. She currently teaches first grade and is excited about having a classroom and being with the same group of students all day. Kelly, her husband, and two sons moved from Annandale, Virginia. Kelly earned a BS in Biology from Mary Washington College in 1994 and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Old Dominion University in 1996. In her spare time, Kelly enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, reading, walking her dog, riding bikes, baking, and playing the piano.

BowlesMs. Melinda Bowles

Ms. Bowles teaches second grade and this will be her 29th year of teaching at Chesapeake Academy. Lynn grew up in Reedville, Virginia and graduated from Mary Washington College. One of her favorite things about teaching is watching her students grow and knowing that she is indeed making a difference in their lives. Lynn likes working in small groups and giving each student the attention they need. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, boating, reading, cooking, and watching movies.

 

 

 

Vanderpool

Mrs. Molly Vanderpool

Mrs. Vanderpool team teaches Pre-Kindergarten and directs our Extended Day Program for four to six year olds. Molly taught first grade at Chesapeake for three years until she moved from the area in 2000. She is originally from North Carolina and received her BA degree from Fayetteville State University. Molly loves the process of teaching, especially watching her students make connections with each other and her curricular goals. She has high expectations for her students and it shows in their success. In her spare time Molly enjoys cooking, sewing, gardening, cleaning house, an
